| Name: | Detroit Cowboy | |
| Location: | Chandler, Arizona, United States | |
| Bio: | Moved to Tempe in May pf 2006, however Detroit will always be home. I'd move back in a heartbeat if I knew I wouldn't have a problem finding a job that wouldn't lay me off in two months. Unfortunetly, given the current economy and job market, I don't foresee that happening anytime soon. The running joke for me is that I'm an equal opportunity asshole - I'm the same jackass to everyone. I don't care if you're asking me if I want fries with that, or your George Bush/Bill Gates/William Ford/whoever. Now, that doesn't mean that I'm an asshole to people just for the sake of being an asshole. What it really means is I treat everyone equally, regardless of who you are. One of the biggest things to rub me the wrong way in this world is to demand respect based on what you've done. Your actions isn't what commands respect. Who you are as a person is what commands that honor of someone else respecting you. I come across as a very hard edged person to a lot of people. Most people can't handle me for long. I have a love/hate relationship with most people. Either they love me or they hate me, there generally isn't much of an in-between. I'm OK with that. I feel everyone should be themselves. We shouldn't be expected to change based on someone else's perception of what's "right". When I meet someone new, I'm the full me, straight out of the gate. If someone can't handle who I am, I'd rather find out immediately. I'm brutally honest with people, and expect the same in return. I can take it as much as I can give it, and I don't stand for people who can't. If you can't handle harsh words, that's OK, just so as long as you're not the kind to dish it out to other people. If you are, I have no problems pushing you until you're a pile of tears in the fetal position. Not surprisingly to a lot of people, I'm single more often than not. Again, I'm OK with that. I refuse to settle or compromise myself just to be with someone. I'll lead a life as a bachelor until the day I day before I'll settle. I'm not in competition with anyone but myself. I'm really into motorcycles and 4x4s, typical guy stuff I suppose, although the Big 4 sports generally don't interest me much (football, basketball, baseball, hockey). I'd much rather be out in the desert on some trail than hanging out in a club or bar (although I do enjoy a good indie coffee shop or cafe). I completed my dream of a cross country motorcycle trip when I moved here, on a Honda XR250 dual sport. 2000+ miles on a 250cc four-stroke dirt bike. NEVER AGAIN. While it was a trip of a lifetime, it was also one of the most painful rides I've ever done. I have a lust for photography, minus the budget for proper equipment. My Nikon Coolpix P&S died on the trip down here (guess my waterproof riding jacket wasn't as waterproofed as one would think), thus prompting me to finally bite the bullet and pick up a DSLR. I ended up buying a Pentax *ist DL, and have been incredibly happy with it. One of these days, I might even learn how to use it properly. I'm both a gearhead, and a geek. I often mix the two (such as installing a MP3/navigation system in my car. Chevrolet certainly was not planning on this mod when designing the interior of the 4th gen Camaro). I know a hell of a lot more about vehicles than I do computers though, yet oddly I chose computers as my career. I know enough computer stuff to keep me going, and its a rare occasion that I have to consult another geek to fix computer problems. I do run my own servers. On the car side I always seem to be doing some sort of mod, repair, or fabrication. I like to know how things work. I like to know the why along with the how. If something stops working, I'll tear into it to see how it works, and fix it myself. There are few things that I own that I didn't quickly modify in some way to make it better. I'm fascinated by the Victorian thru Edwardian era, as well as Vaudeville to a degree. I've always wanted to live in a turn of the century house, along with period furniture, appliances, etc. Perhaps even an old Model T or something :) Altho I'd still have to get broadband internet piped in, as well as updated electrical to handle things. Of couse I'd had to keep some modern things, in the name of safety and all, I'm not a total fruitcake :-P I know better than to use a 100 year old toaster, lol. | |
